Storyboarding

In this class we covered storyboarding ( what makes a good story and the mechanics of a story). Before the class, we had been asked to think about a wicked problem that interests us, while i had picked 2 wicked problem I was feeling unsure if one of them was a “wicked problem”.

During the class, we were in groups and we required to discuss our wicked problem idea in 2 minutes. This was quite a difficult task to condense my thoughts and feelings on this wicked problem in just 2 minutes, but I did it 🙂 Also the feedback and and advice from my group about the idea and areas to focus on, when creating a story around this topic were very positive. I also enjoyed listening to other peoples stories and giving feedback. I got to know these people better, because the reasons behind each of our choices for wick problems were all deeply personal.

For me the whole class, was beneficial for various reasons. Learning how to break down a story or the mechanics that go into story telling, is something great to know, as I can apply this knowledge to other aspects of my life – home, work, school etc. As previously mentioned, the discussion of our wicked problems was great. Finally, the activity in sketching out a story around our wicked problem, while challenging it was great to put some ideas down in a coherent manner and to finish the class which some accomplishment. In majority of my class I don’t feel that after the class, unless it is a language class.

Overall, I think this was a positive experience, the group I was in worked well and created a space where people did speak about topics close to their heart and it might have been uncomfortable to begin to speak about it, I think everyone felt more comfortable as time went on.

The next time, I am required to give my opinion/ideas on a personal topic, I should be more confident, that people will be supportive and encouraging about what I have to say and by engaging in activities like this, everyone can make a space that people feel confident and comfortable.
